My “love affair” with strength training began back in the days of fitness DVDs and high rep, light weight dumbbell workouts for women. I came across kettlebell training in one of these DVDs, and to cut a very long story short, soon came into contact with SHAUN AND MARLISE.
After a good few years of proper kettlebell training and getting stronger and stronger, training with weights up to 24 kg, I decided I wanted to be even stronger. And so I was bitten by the powerlifting bug. Shaun coached me incredibly well in barbell lifting and soon I was competing in CLUB AND PROVINCIAL POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS. In 2018 I even represented the WESTERN PROVINCE AT THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
In 2019, “life happened” and I was unable to focus on my training for a while. And then, in 2020, Covid happened. For seven months I was stuck in a hotel abroad, with little – to eventually no – access to gym equipment. My strength and conditioning took a serious hit, no surprise.
By 2021 I decided that I wanted to get strong again, and started training with Shaun once more. After the long hiatus, it felt like I was really back to square one – I couldn’t even deadlift a former warm-up weight off the floor, or press an unloaded bar overhead in a military press. After just ten weeks on my CUSTOM PROGRAM designed by Shaun for my exact requirements, I’m now back with a vengeance – currently SQATTING 75 kg and DEADLIFTING 100 kg with relative ease, both only 10 kg away from my former competition PBs. The bench press is only 5 kg away from the previous best, currently PRESSING 47,5 kg. ALL thanks to Shaun!
After my follow up testing with Shaun I’m about to start my new CUSTOM program, and have every confidence that I will soon reach – and then exceed!! – those PBs from before. And I can’t wait – because nothing beats being STRONG!! And if anybody can get me there, it’ll be Shaun.
